First contribution in this repository! I could not find any contributions guidelines, so apologies if I am not following conventions :)
On the change itself: I tried to keep it minimal, only adding support for catch-alls in the middle of paths, while preserving the existing behavior (so this should be backward compatible).
I also updated the docs and added a benchmark and new tests, to cover the new behavior.
