## How to understand why a SmartScan failed

When a scan fails, an **Explain** link appears after the failure message in the transaction thread.

1. Open the transaction thread for the expense with the failed scan.
2. Select **Explain** after the "Receipt scanning failed" message.

A thread opens and Concierge replies with a field-aware explanation that references the specific fields it couldn't read, so you know exactly what to fix before retrying or entering the details manually.
