Multimyth Launcher #60

Description

I still want end users to easily install coremods, but in a way where:

  • They are clearly aware of what they're installing
  • Updates are deliberate
  • And the risks are known and accepted

The steam workshop offers none of those guarantees. I believe a custom launcher like MultiMC would make the most sense as a long term solution. Such a launcher should allow:

  • * One click instance creation: so users can spin up isolated environments without worrying about cross contamination.
  • * Game version selection: so users can choose a specific version of the game to obtain from steam (ex: for speedrunning or mods which no longer update to later versions of the game)
    • thrixlvault can be used for this. It's currently leveraged by wilderworkspace to create dev environments for specific game versions.
  • * Java Version Selection
  • * Per instance mod folders: so coremods won't bleed into other environments, or the vanilla game
  • * Clear visibility of installed mods: so there are no hidden updates. What the user installed is what runs. Updates are deliberate by the end user.
  • * Installation/save cloning: So users can test mod updates or game changes in an isolated environment before touching their main saves.
